Staff Development and Other Training

In-service training and staff development in a wide range of areas including education and learning, legislative requirements and its implementation (eg, the 2009 Education Act and the 2010 Equality Act), child and adolescent development, preparation for HMIe inspections and mediation skills.

  1. A half-day session in a school where an HMIe inspection was imminent. This session was focussed on the school’s Support for Learning function and how it might be best displayed in relation to established quality indicators, and other process indicators of good practice, in line with recent legislation and other central guidance.
  2. A whole-day session with a school’s staff (including non-teaching staff) on meeting the educational needs of pupils with particular difficulties (eg, Asperger‘s Syndrome, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Behaviour Problems). The school’s overall aims were to establish a general and consistent level of understanding about the nature of the conditions, and to integrate best practice in respect of these into their everyday practice.
  3. A whole-day session on the 2010 Equality Act and its implications and requirements in education.
  4. Child protection issues for staff of a children’s charity.
